Nodular goiter

 

  • The thyroid gland shows cystically dilatated, middle- and small-sized thyroid follicles with dark pink dense colloid.
  • In large follicles, the epithelium is flat and one-layered (histological accommodation by pressure), while the epithelium in small-sized follicles have the ‘taller’ cubic shape.
  • In the interstitium of the gland can be found secondary changes like hemorrhages, fibrosis, degenerative calcification, even ossification.
