Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the ovary
- Tumor parenchyma shows glandular and cystic structures with pink content . They are covered with anaplastic cells which destroy the basement membrane and infiltrate the underlying connective tissue.
- Mucous epithelium is distinguished by its characteristic bright /mucus-producing/ cytoplasm.
- Single tumor cells are ‘dissociated’ from tumor mass and are called ‘signet ring’ cells (inset).
- Presence of mucus is proved with purple red staining with РАS-reaction .
