Miscarriage – pictures and pathology
- Miscarriage is the interruption of pregnancy before 28 week of gestation.
- In early abortion, fetal parts are not seen in curettages.
- Specimens contain rich in glycogen stromal cells of the uterine mucosa which are called decidua (D) and plenty of immature chorionic villi with different size and shape.
- The villi are covered by unilayer basal tropholast cells – called cytotrophoblast (Langhans layer) and outer multinucleated trophoblast layer – the syncytiotrophoblast.
