  • Atypical cell proliferation , which affects the entire thickness of the multilayered squamous epithelium , without destroying the basement membrane .
  • If  multiple histological sections confirm that the basement membrane is not destroyed and there is no ‘creep’ over the cervical canal, the ‘cone’ resection is both diagnostic and therapeutic procedure.
  • Metastases in  Са in situ cannot occur.
