  • Presented is the hypertrophic type of chronic tonsillitis.
  • Lymph follicles are multiple, highly enlarged, with bright, germ centers.
  • Below them are found bands of sclerotic tissue.
  • Lacunas are dilated,  their epithelium is desquamated, but can form concentric accumu-lations of cholesterol and  when the latter are calcified – called ‘amygdalites’.
  • ØThe entire issue is infiltrated with lymphocytes and plasma cells.
