Chronic tonsillitis – pictures and pathology
- Presented is the hypertrophic type of chronic tonsillitis.
- Lymph follicles are multiple, highly enlarged, with bright, germ centers.
- Below them are found bands of sclerotic tissue.
- Lacunas are dilated, their epithelium is desquamated, but can form concentric accumu-lations of cholesterol and when the latter are calcified – called ‘amygdalites’.
- ØThe entire issue is infiltrated with lymphocytes and plasma cells.
